Abstract
The ability of bats to prey insects and to make their living by catching
fish on the wing by means of echolocation is
amazing for many years. A mathematical model describing a way in which the
bat can detect the fish under the water
surface is suggested in this article. It is considered and solved
numerically the problem of reflection of the spherical
acoustical wave from the water with the spherical air inclusion under the
surface. The frequency dependence of the
pressure in reflected wave shows the significant attenuation of the
reflected signal at some frequencies. It gives the
possibility to explain the surprising efficiency of acoustic acuity enjoined
by these animals.
